Nestled along the quiet shores of Makham Bay, our resort is privileged to sit alongside a thriving and delicate marine ecosystem. We take active responsibility for safeguarding these waters, which serve as a critical habitat for expansive seagrass beds and a dedicated nursery for bamboo sharks. Environmental stewardship is not merely a background effort for us, but a core guiding principle that shapes how we interact with our natural surroundings every day.
Our partnership with Prem grows out of this deep sense of responsibility. We are committed to using our platform to uplift forward thinking artists who choose to place sustainability at the absolute center of their work, proving that art and environmental awareness can seamlessly coexist. Prem turns eco conscious concepts into tangible, deeply expressive physical artworks that speak to both the eyes and the mind. Hosting this extensive collection within our resort provides our guests, local visitors, and art enthusiasts with an immersive opportunity to explore the intersection of coastal conservation, traditional craftsmanship, and modern material resourcefulness.
The exhibition, Where the Waves Become Still takes inspiration from the peaceful, reflective hours following an ocean storm. Looking out over the water, the surface often appears smooth and tranquil, yet powerful tides, deep currents, and invisible winds continue their subtle dance beneath. Across our island landscape, the subtle transition of light from early sunrise to quiet nightfall demonstrates that nature is never truly static. Even during moments of apparent rest, life continues to move and evolve.
Each piece in this collection is constructed entirely from reclaimed textile scraps, forming dynamic visual surfaces that transform depending on natural light and viewing angles. Intricately layered fibers mirror the physical rhythms of wind and water while serving as a poignant mirror for our own lives. Much like the ocean after a storm, we as individuals often present a calm exterior while carrying ongoing internal shifts, growth, and quiet healing. The exhibition serves as a reminder that the waves never truly stop, and neither do we.
About the Artist
Prem Buachum, known professionally as Prem, is a Thai contemporary artist and designer with a background in product and textile design. His practice explores the dynamic relationship between nature, local environments, and human emotion through organic shapes, color, and tactile forms.
Central to his studio work is the transformation of textile industry waste, including fabric offcuts, clothing labels, jacquard selvages, and thread remnants. Through hand embroidery, knitting, weaving, and fabric collage, he transforms discarded materials into detailed visual pieces. Because each raw fiber carries its own texture and history, every artwork is entirely unique and impossible to duplicate.
